Rajma Paratha

Rajma Paratha or Kidney beans Paratha ( Indian flatbread)makes an excellent choice for Paratha lovers. Made with Rajma( kidney beans), grated vegetables, and shallow fried with Ghee/ Butter or white oil.

 If your kid is a fussy eater and doesn’t want to eat vegetables like mine, then this Paratha recipe is a treasure for your  Kid’s lunch box or Breakfast.  In fact, this is a great option for grown up people too!My daughter is a Paratha lover and she could happily eat Parathas for breakfast, lunch, dinner. So you will see many paratha recipes here.  Now before we get into the recipe, here is one tip. If your mornings are very busy and you want to prepare the paratha night before, you can roll out the Parathas and half cooked the parathas, next morning all you need to do just shallow fry the paratha and serve or pack for lunch box. ( see the video until the end to get a clear understanding)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp  vegetable or canola oil
  • ½ cup cooked Kidney bean paste ( try to avoid add water when you make the paste)
  • ¼ cup grated carrot
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped onion
  • 1 small boiled potato mashed
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp grated garlic
  • 1  green chili ( if you are making the paratha for kid you can skip it)
  • 1 tbsp chopped tomato
  • Handful of chopped coriander leaves
  • Juice of a half lemon
  • Salt and sugar to taste
  • Oil or Ghee for frying

Process:

  1. In a mixing bowl, add kidney bean paste, all vegetables, lemon juice, mashed potato, oil, wheat flour, salt, and Sugar, mix everything until well combined,  If you need, add a little water. Make a tight dough.
  2. Cover the dough with lid and keep aside for 30 mins. You will see that the dough become little soft.
  3. Knead the dough one more time for 2-3 minutes, divide into 5-6 balls.
  4. Preheat your Tawa or pan over medium heat.
  5. Sprinkle wheat flour on your countertop or rolling board, take one ball, dredge it in the dry flour and roll it out approximately 6’’ diameter circle.
  6. Place the Paratha over preheated pan, over high heat cook each side for a few seconds, then turn the other side.
  7. Spread some Ghee or vegetable oil on the top side and then flip the other side, and spread oil or Ghee on the top side.
  8. Flip 2-3 times till both sides cooked properly. You will see crispy brown spots on the top. Remove from the Tawa and serve hot.
  9. If you want to make the paratha for your kid’s lunch box, then wrap the Parathas with a foil.
  10. Enjoy with your favorite curry or Curd.
